Prevalence of Myopia
Studies have shown that myopia, or nearsightedness, has been increasing globally. Children especially are being affected due to technological environments such as school, socializing, gaming, etc. Studies are now predicting that the prevalence of myopia is expected to increase to 50% globally by 2050. Not only does myopia affect eyes, but it has the potential to affect futures as well. One example that Health.mil notes is active service members with functional unaided vision have advantages over those that need visual correction. NPR shares that the best way to slow myopia progression is by taking breaks from screen time and participating in outdoor activities.
